Tips on dating single parents

      Dating single parents

Dating single parents ... this can be a challenging but exciting time!

So you have met the perfect man or woman of your dreams but there is only one problem…they have kids! Dating single parents can be equally challenging for someone who has never had their own children as it is for single mothers and fathers seeking partners. If you are considering dating a single parent then there are a few things you should know.

Single moms and single dads might be a little protective about their feelings. Single parent dating might be just as new to them as it is to you. They may have put all their emotional feelings and desires aside for their children and may find it hard to put themselves first for a change. Give your single mom or dad some time to adjust to this new dating scene and to the foreign feelings they might be facing.

Single parents may be hesitant to bring you home to meet the family and friends. Don’t be offended by this action it is merely a protective action that many single parents use. Dating single parents may be a slow and steady process but well worth it in the end.

Be prepared for some unusual questions which may be a little personal. These questions could range from something serious such as your criminal background to less serious questions such as do you have nieces and nephews. These questions are perfectly normal especially if your single parent is planning on introducing you to the children. They need to know as much as possible about you and your life.

Try not to rush the physical side of the relationship. Whilst many single parents have no problem with intimacy others may still feel intimidated and may want to keep the relationship less physical to avoid any complications.

Finally always make sure that your single mom or dad knows where you stand. Voice any concerns you may have, any fears you may be feeling and make sure that he or she is well aware of where your relationship stands. Always be honest and truthful about your feelings.
